The power of habits

Fitter, stronger, healthier, happier ?

Who doesn't want this ? And how many of us haven't tried tens if not hundreds of tips, tools and approaches to achieve these goals? Diet, exercising plans, therapy, special supplements, equipment, you name it.  I have myself tried many approaches to improve my health and lifestyle and although some things have resisted the pass of time, most didn't. I have never been able to follow a diet and a lot of the cooking and sporting equipment was left to catch dust after a few month of use.

It wasn't until I started studying neuroscience, that I have actually discovered the missing piece: behaviors! The key to reaching anything durable is resumed to this: creating and cultivating supporting habits.

What are habits actually ? Habits are those relatively simple and short actions which we do very often and which are so integrated into our life that they have become almost an automatism. Like brushing the teeth before going to bed, making a cup of coffee first thing in the morning, putting on lipstick before going out or ...smoking. All those things had to be learned at one point and they took some effort to get them right, but after a few years feel "natural".

Whenever we want to achieve a long term goal, the only way to succeed and keep the success, is to cultivate the right habits. Think about losing weight for example. Almost anyone can lose weight fast by keeping a strict diet for a few weeks and having a stricter exercising regimen, but if one wants to maintain a healthy weight throughout the years, then habits are a must. That is why in my health seminars, the focus is always on teaching the necessary habits and mindset for efficient and long lasting results.
